Becoming River

Workshop by Gert-Jan Stam

What if the river was our teacher? Can we connect with our watery self? Can we learn to move, act or be like a river?

Becoming River proposes to reconsider our relationship with water through a direct interaction with the river (any river). Through different exercises (moving, sensing and caring) we explore to what extent we are water, how water connects us and what the specific lessons of the river might be. This workshop builds on our growing experience of working with rivers like the Neris in Lithuania, the AA in Belgium and especially, through the Maas Lab, with the Maas in the Netherlands. The workshop also finds inspiration in art, design and the writings of a.o. Astridas Neimanis (Hydrofeminism), Roger Deakin (Waterlog) and Wallace J. Nichols (Blue Mind). The aim is to get first hand experience with regenerative, multispecies cocreation from the perspective of the river as an ecosystem.
